SAFE NIGHTS OF CALVERT COUNTY |
OUR MISSION: The Safe Nights program is dedicated to protecting the homeless from the cold by providing shelter in a clean and safe environment.
WHO WE ARE: The Safe Nights program is a consortium of Calvert County faith congregations that are dedicated to a compassionate response to homelessness in Calvert County. We share a common goal of reaching out to help those who need it the most.
WHAT WE PROVIDE: A Safe warm shelter, evening and morning meals, bag lunch.
WHERE SHELTERS ARE LOCATED: Shelters are held for one or two weeks at a time in various churches in Calvert County.
WHEN ARE SHELTERS AVAILABLE? The shelter season is from November through March, and shelters are open seven days a week from 7:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m.
HOW YOU CAN SERVE: St. John Vianney normally hosts shelters for two weeks during the Safe Nights season. Sign-ups for volunteers are normally held about two to three weeks before the beginning of the shelter week. You will find the reward is greater than the gift. Volunteers are needed for the following activities:
Ø Preparing Meals
Ø Serving Meals
Ø Serving as Overnight Monitor
Ø Cleaning
Ø Laundering Linens
Ø Setting-Up and Breaking-Down the Shelter
Ø Transporting Shelter Materials
WHAT YOU CAN DONATE: You may wish to donate one or more of the following items:
v Twin-size Flat Sheets
v Standard Pillowcases
v Twin-size Blankets (no quilts)
v Towels and Washcloths
v Duffle Bags
v Winter Gloves (for men and women)
v Socks (for men and women)
v Travel-size Toiletries
v Cash Donations (Checks to St. John Vianney with Safe Nights on Memo Line)
