WEEK 16:
The Ten Commandments and The Beatitudes
Catechism of the Catholic Church 2081-2082:
“The Ten
Commandments, in their fundamental content, state grave obligations. However,
obedience to these precepts also implies obligations in matter which is, in itself, light. What
God commands he makes possible by his grace.”
Catechism
of the Catholic Church 1726:
“The Beatitudes teach
us the final end to which God calls us: the Kingdom, the vision of God,
participation in the divine nature, eternal life, filiation,
rest in God.
Catechism of the Catholic Church 1728:
“The Beatitudes confront us with decisive choices concerning
earthly goods; they purify our hearts in order to teach us to love God above
all things.”
MEDITATION:
How do the Commandments show that God is a loving Father who has our best
interests at heart?
“The commandments of God
are the guides which God gives us to show us the road to Heaven; like the names
written up at the corners of the streets, to point out the way.” -- St. John Vianney
