Grand Knight Report (DGK)

  • Calendar of Events from Feb – July 2006 is posted at www.kofc11259.us
  • Father McGivney Book – Parish Priest is available 1/10/06.  Every Knight should have a copy of this book.   Orders will be made from Council for stock.
  • Retreat Day for the Knights will be Sunday, 2/25/06 at The Shrine of St Anthony.   Cost is $30.
  • State Duckpin Bowling Tournament will be held on March 5th, 1PM to 5PM at Westview AMG Lanes in Baltimore.  Registration is due no later than 2/26; $15 for bowling, and $8 for reception.  (see flyer)
  • Our Council is cooking the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Dinner at JDW, 2/28  5pm to 7pm.  Tickets may go on sale weekend of 2/11/06.  Cost: TBD. 
  • St Patrick’s Day Concert/Dinner on 3/18 at the SJV Family Life Center.  Tickets go on sale 2/2/06.  Evening will begin at 730PM and will include Irish country singing, an Irish pub, and authentic cuisine.  Tickets are $20 per person from DGK.  (see flyer)
  • Cardinal’s Charity Ball will be held 4/22/06 at L’Enfant Plaza Hotel in Washington DC from 6PM to 11PM.  Tickets are $45/person. 
  • Council polo shirts are being ordered and will be distributed upon arrival.
  • Founder’s Day Mass:  124th anniversary of Knights of Columbus Mass will be celebrated at Loyola University Alumni Memorial Chapel beginning at 2PM.
  • Past Chapter President’s Ball:  McNamara Chapter of Grand Knights hosting Ball on 3/19/06 at St Columcille Council , Fort Washington, MD - $21 per person or $40 per couple
  • Council is looking for Host families for Foreign Exchange Students.  Contact Margaret Bayliff at (410) 586-0317

 

Chaplain’s Report: (Fr Daly)

  • The Knights are doing a very good job in bringing the Parish’s together for common projects.
  • Twelve men have been ordained as Priests in the Arch Diocese this year.  We all should work harder to promote vocations.  Half the new vocations are now foreign borne.  Expect an increasing trend of transfers from outside the US.
  • CCD teachers to start the “Trail of the Saints” program in which we will have the opportunity to learn more about our American Saints.

 

Treasurer’s Report (John Harper) – No report

 

Financial Secretary Report: (Carl McClanahan)  

  • Current membership is 165 members
  • At least one new Knight per month is needed for us to meet our annual goal.  Additionally, one or two insurance members are needed.
  • Net balance on hand:  $3,667.49
  • Total assets:  $25,543

Chancellor’s Report (John O’Connor)

  • First Friday Adoration at JDW growing and really catching on with the Parish

 

Program Chairman: (Doug Wood)

·        Church (Mario Riano /John O’Connor)

o       All night Eucharistic Adoration at JDW, 1st Friday of each month (7PM – 8:45AM) followed by Benediction, Mass, and breakfast in Doran Hall by donation.  Signup with John O’Connor.

o       Rosaries:

§         SJV, 1st Sat. of the month before 5pm Mass (2/4)

§         SFD, 2nd Sun. of the month before 8:30am Mass (2/12)

§         JDW, 3rd Sun. of the month before 930am Mass (1/15)

o       Check out MD Catholic Conference website (www.mdcathcon.org)  to see how you can become involved with issues before the MD legislature.

·        Community (Larry Donnelly)

o       Dedication of the Memorial to the Unborn will occur at SJV mid-March

  • Council (James Caldwell)

o       .Eugene Gonzales is chairman for the Christmas in April activity.  This year we will try to include more Parish children.

  • Family (Rob Sullivan) – No Report
  • Youth (Robert Cross)
    • Kof C Free Throw Shootout – Please come to support these events.

o       District – Sat, 2/11/06, 5PM to 8PM, SJV Family Life Center.  This Council has two participants; Joshua and Paul Woodburn

o       State – Sat, 3/4/06, Mt St. Mary’s College, Emmitsburg, MD

 

Old Business

o       Jack McFadden briefed an update to the basement build-out at SJV.  A large conference room is being envisioned which will have priority scheduling for the Knights.  A display case, bulletin board, dedicated storage space and refrigerator will be included.     

 

 

 

New Business

  • Breakfast was held at JDW after the 2/4/06 Eucharistic Adoration.  Thank you to Fr Dan Leary, Sharon Coulson , Scott Flynn, Larry Smialek, Mike Polak, Eugene and Gale Gonzales, and John O’Connor
  • An Art Auction fundraiser is under consideration for 6-7 May.  GK has the action.
  • Work on the member’s phone directory has been initiated.  Action: GK and DGK
  • Reminder of the K of  C Maryland State convention being held in Ocean City on 19-21 May.

 

4th Degree Report:  The 4th degree Exemplification, held on 26 February, included 12 candidates this year which is two higher than last year.

 

Insurance Agent’s Report (Bill Guinanane)

  • A Knights benefit night will be held on Thursday, Feb 23, at JDW.  This event is open to the public and will begin at 7:30PM.

 

District Deputy Report: 

  • Stress  membership again this year especially for the Insurance Program
  • Council performance in 05 regarding raffle, Tootsie Roll drive and Christmas card sales was outstanding.  Our Council led the State in these efforts.

 

Good of the Order: 

  • SK Robert Cross was recognized as Knight of the Month for November, 2005
  • SK Charles Caplins was recognized as Knight of the Month for January, 2006
  • SK Robert Hershberg and Family were recognized as Family of the Month for November, 2005
  • SK Larry Donnelly and Family were recognized as Family of the Month for December, 2005
  • SK John O’Connor and Family were recognized as Family of the Month for January, 2006
