Warden’s Report (Mike Polak)

 

 

Admissions Committee/Applications Report. (Larry Smialek)

·        Six applications packages have bee provided to new applicants

·        Four new applications have been received

·        Ceremonies for 1st and 2nd Degrees will be held at JDW on 26 January

 

Grand Knight Report (DGK)

  • A Happy New Year wish extended to all Brother Knights.
  • Calendar of Events from Jan – July 2006 is posted at www.kofc11259.us
  • Congratulations to Fr. Daly, Associate Council Chaplain, for being selected to the Board of Directors at Calvert Memorial Hospital (CMH)
  • Report from the Mid-Term mtg (1/7/06)

o       Council # 11259 was recognized and received awards.  See Council news

o       Council officers must be at least 3rd degree or above.

o       National Wheelchair Foundation Program was discussed.  Wheelchairs can be sent to the needy through this program for $80 dollars each.  This would be good outreach program for the Council.

o       Holy Land Christian Ecumenical Foundation presented their program to “adopt” Christian orphans in the Holy Land for $300/yr.  This amount provides food, housing, clothes and schooling,  GK will have additional info and DVD at future meeting.

  • Father McGivney Book – Parish Priest is available 1/10/06.  Every Knight should have a copy of this book.   Orders will be made from Council for stock.
  • Need nominations for:  (1) Catholic Teacher of the Year (must teach CCD or at Catholic school), (2) Law Enforcement, Firefighter and EMT of the year.   Nominations are needed by 1/26/06.  Nominations may be submitted to the GK, DGK, or Recorder.
  • State Duckpin Bowling Tournament will be held on March 5th , 1PM to 5PM at Westview AMG Lanes in Baltimore.  Registration is due no later than 2/26; $15 for bowling, and $8 for reception.  (see flyer)
  • Our Council is cooking the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Dinner at JDW, 2/28
  • St Patrick’s Day Concert/Dinner on 3/18 at the SJV Family Life Center.  Tickets go on sale 2/2/06.  Evening will begin at 730PM and will include Irish country singing, an Irish pub, and authentic cuisine.  Tickets are $20 per person from DGK.  (see flyer)
  • Cardinal’s Charity Ball will be held 4/22/06 at L’Enfant Plaza Hotel in Washington DC from 6PM to 11PM.  Tickets are $45/person.  (see flyer)
  • Council polo shirts are being ordered and will be distributed upon arrival.

 

Chaplain’s Report: (Fr Daly)

  • The Priests are very thankful for the strong activity of the Knights in this Council 
  • The Memorial to the Unborn will be a most welcome addition to the SJV property
  • SJV has two major ongoing projects.

o       Hurricane Katrina relief:  Parish has adopted an African American parish in Mississippi and plans several work trips over the spring to help restore Parish buildings so that they will have a place to hold Mass.

o       Project Echo replacement building.  Efforts are currently underway to identify the funding and begin the planning for new Echo building.

  • SJV has begun a Hypothermia Prevention Program wherein the Vianney room will be opened to homeless men on very cold nights this winter.  This effort is being coordinated with county government.
  • A social potluck will be held at Fr Leary’s house ( 710 Joy Lee Court, Huntingtown) on Sunday, 1/15 from 2PM to 5PM.  All are invited.

 

Treasurer’s Report (John Harper) – No report

 

Financial Secretary Report: (Carl McClanahan) 

  • Current membership is 165 members
  • At least one new Knight per month is needed for us to meet our annual goal.  Additionally, one or two insurance members are needed.
  • Christmas card drive, auto raffle, and tootsie roll sales were huge successes this year.

 

Trustee Report: (Jerry Murrow, Eugene Gonzales, Ed Waskiewicz) – No report

 

Chancellor’s Report (John O’Connor) – No Report

 

Program Chairman: (Doug Wood)

·        Church (Mario Riano /John O’Connor)

o       All night Eucharistic Adoration at JDW, 1st Friday of each month (7PM – 8:45AM) followed by Benediction, Mass, and breakfast in Doran Hall by donation.  Signup with John O’Connor.

o       Rosaries:

§         SJV, 1st Sat. of the month before 5pm Mass (2/4)

§         SFD, 2nd Sun. of the month before 8:30am Mass (2/12)

§         JDW, 3rd Sun. of the month before 930am Mass (1/15)

o       Check out MD Catholic Conference website (www.mdcathcon.org)  to see how you can become involved with issues before the MD legislature.

o       Breakfast after 1/6-7 Eucharistic Adoration raised $160 to help pay for the JDW Concert dinners on 1/21 and 1/22.

·        Community (Larry Donnelly)

o       Dedication of the Memorial to the Unborn will occur at SJV mid-March

o       Pro-Life Legislative alert (see flyer)

o       March for Life – Monday, 1/23/06 in Washington, DC. 

§         JDW has a bus leaveing at 7AM and returning at 5PM by donation.

§         Mass at MCI Center – doors open at 7AM, MASS at 9AM.  Get there early to ensure you get a seat.

§         March on the National Mall – 12PM. (see attached map for  meeting location on the mall or call Elroy McLeod for instructions).

·        Elroy McLeod will be in front of the Supreme Court

·        Steve Bayliff will be at MCI center and National Mall with the Council banner.

·        Marchers should gather on 7th street on the Mall.

      • Winner – Diego Caldero, 1yr. old
      • Our Council recognized at Mid term meeting for largest increase in ticket sales over 2004 in state.  A watch was presented to the GK and a wall clock/plaque for the Council.
    • Christmas Card Program (Larry Donnelly)
      •  Our Council sold the most Christmas cards of any Council in the state.  Tremendous support from those who sold the cards and also from those who purchased them.
  • Family (Rob Sullivan)
    • Tony Melendez Concert/Dinner at JDW – Sat, 1/21.  Come see this inspiring, nationally recognized artist
      • Mass – 5PM; Dinner-6:15PM; Concert – 7PM to 9PM
      • $5 for children, $7 for adults, $25 for family
      • Our Council will be cooking burgers/ hotdogs & potluck
    • Fr Stan Concert/Dinner at JDW – Sunday, 1/22.  Come join in Rapping for Christ.
      • Mass – 5PM; Dinner-6:15PM; Concert – 7PM to 9PM
      • $5 for children, $7 for adults, $25 for family
      • Our Council will be cooking burgers/ hotdogs
  • Youth (Robert Cross)
    • Breakfast with Santa, 12/17, raised $184 for Calvert County Volunteer Paramedics.  A check was presented on 1/8/06. 
    • “Keep Christ in Christmas” Poster Contest – Two Council winners
      • Bryce Oursler – 3rd Grade
      • Julia Croft – 6th Grade
      • GK will present awards in February
    • Kof C Free Throw Shootout – Please come to support these events.

Old Business - None

 

New Business

  • DGK led discussion about establishing a Knights Telephone Tree with the intent to contact each Brother Knight every month just to touch base and check their welfare.  No motion was made

 

4th Degree Report:  Next 4th degree Exemplification will be held on 26 February.

 

District Deputy Report: 

  • Stress  membership again this year especially for the Insurance Program
  • Council performance in 05 regarding raffle, Tootsie Roll drive and Christmas card sales was outstanding.  Our Council led the State in these efforts.

 

Good of the Order: 

  • A number of prayers for the sick were offered
  • Scott Flynn provided a terrific dinner.
