Brief
discussion of how nice the 1st and 2nd degrees were at
the last meeting.
Discussion
of raffle tickets and the fact that we have sold the original 1,500 tickets the
council received. The council is now in
the process of trying to sell the next batch of 1,500 tickets.
Mr.
Coulson has received the 100 tickets he requested.
Larry
Smialek will oversee the raffle that is to be done on
August 12, 13, 14th. This was later changed because Larry was to be
out of town that weekend.
Jerry
Murrow will take care of getting the vehicle.
DGK notes that ticket sales will
close 10/1 because 10/8 is the Columbus Day Ball.
During
the discussion on the tickets, there was mention of the action by the Trustees
putting a hold on all expenses.
Currently the council does not work ball games anymore and has no source
of income. It can no longer afford to
support its charities without some sort of fund raising.
The
installation of new officers will be on 8/27.
All members are asked to respond about whether they are coming to the
installation at the following number 410-586-0317. Steve’s wife is overseeing the food, but
members are encouraged to bring deserts.
Warden
makes announcement that he needs to collect the jewels so that they will be
available for the next officers and for handing them out at the installation.

Fin. Sec. Report
Rpt. Of the Trustees – Suspended payment of $200 to the Assembly at the last
meeting. We now have the money, so the
Trustees note that the bill to the Assembly should be paid. $700 to tomb of unknown soldiers is a bill
that should paid.

Chancellor’s Report
DGK
notes that the Program Seminar is being held on 8/31/05 at Sacred Heart Parish
at 7:30 p.m. All officers are to meet in
the St. John Vianney parking lot at 6:15 p.m. to carpool to the seminar. He also noted the importance of attending.

Decided that the picnic will not be held at the
The
picnic will be held the last weekend in September – September 24th
or 25th
The
month of September, the council will be doing a drive to collect monies for the
support of the seminarians. We will be
seeking donations from the parishioners of the three parishes we serve. Fr. Daly has committed the monies collected
from the poor box the weekend of September 24th/25th. The council needs at least $1,800 to support
the seminarians. Fr. Daly has suggested
that we have one of the seminarians we support speak briefly at the end of the
Masses on this weekend. A discussion
ensues regarding how this can be done.
Larry Smialek agrees to make the necessary
contacts and will either have a seminarian or the head of vocations speak. Failing that, some other arrangement will be
made.
Discussion
of creating a standing committee to work on establishing a permanent home for
the council – probably at St. John Vianney in the basement. Larry Smialek is
heading the effort and is talking to Jack McFadden re activities. The renovation of the basement was delayed
for 1 year by the Finance Committee of the Parish Council.
New
Business
Motion to pay bills. Seconded and
approved by voice vote by all present.
Discussion of the possibility of having a Bull Roast. Initially a date of October 13th
was set as the date, but this was determined later in the discussion not to be
practical. Larry Donnelly raised the
fact that you need at least 6 months preparation time to get everything in
place and to properly advertise the event.
Without proper advertisement, the event, as a fund raiser will
fail. Larry Smialek
and the GK will begin discussions on marketing and Larry will head this
effort. Larry Donnelly will, as always,
do the food.
Larry
Donnelly could not emphasize enough the great and persuasive need for an active
and energetic marketing campaign. There
was also some mention of the need to check out what is necessary concerning
having liability insurance.
Discussion
of Fr. Jordan’s planning on having a large vocational effort. He is expecting the knights to support a
dinner, which has been scheduled for October 16th. There will be a 4 p.m., Mass followed by the
dinner. He is expecting 40 priests to be
present to talk about vocations and Fr. Jordan needs cookers and people to
cook.
Discussion
of withdrawing $700 from the council savings account to pay for the memorial to
the unborn that the council has agreed to fund the building of at St. John
Vianney. The memorial is to be placed in
the cemetery.
Parish
picnic for Jesus the Divine Word is 9/18, and all are invited. It will start at 2 p.m.
4th
Degree Report
Discussion of the Assembly’s installation and how well it was received. Calvert council contributed $200 and we are
now waiting for the contribution from Star of the Sea.
Need

Shrine where the Madonna of Vietnam will be received. Cardinal will celebrate Mass on 8/14.
